What Does It Mean to Curate a Tour?
At Curata Travel, we don’t just build itineraries—we curate them (Curata means curated in Italian!). That word gets tossed around a lot these days, but to us, “curating” means approaching every detail with care, intention, and an eye for what will make your experience feel immersive, thoughtful, and deeply memorable.
Creating our tours is not just a matter of stringing together hotel bookings and restaurant reservations. It’s an ongoing, hands-on process that involves regular exploration, deep relationship-building, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes effort to make sure every moment of your journey feels personal and polished. Just last week Kyle, our Chief Curation Officer, spent time traveling across Italy alongside our team members Chris and Martina, scouting for new experiences and fine-tuning upcoming itineraries. Here’s what that looked like:
🏨 We Stay in the Hotels—So You Know They’re Worth It
We don’t rely on online reviews or glossy websites. We personally stay in the hotels we recommend—testing the beds, inspecting the breakfast buffet, learning whether the elevator actually works (or even exists!), and checking that the amenities are as promised. If we’re sending you there, it’s because we’ve been there ourselves—and we loved it.
🌾 We Vet Every Experience
We take the tours, walk the farms, and step into the kitchens ourselves. We ask questions, time the logistics, meet the guides, and inspect the venues. Our goal is to ensure that each activity aligns with the quality, hospitality, and joy that defines a Curata Travel experience. If it doesn’t meet our standards, it doesn’t make the cut.
🍽️ We Eat the Meals (Yes, It’s a Hard Job)
Food is at the heart of what we do! When we visit a potential restaurant partner, we’re not just tasting—we’re curating. We sample dishes, talk to chefs, discuss regional specialties, and work together to create menus that tell a story. We want you to taste the essence of a place, whether that’s a rustic pasta in a family trattoria or a bold dish from a young, modern chef redefining local cuisine.
✨ We Leave Room for Magic
Even with all the planning in the world, some of the best parts of our tours come from spontaneous discoveries. A tucked-away artisan’s studio, a private hilltop castle, a spontaneous wine tasting, a beautiful walk through an olive grove at golden hour—these are the moments that make a tour feel not just organized, but alive. And we love building in opportunities to share those kinds of surprises with you.
When you travel with Curata, you're not just seeing Italy—you’re experiencing it through the eyes of people who are passionate about creating meaningful, beautiful, and unforgettable journeys. Each tour is a reflection of the care, curiosity, and connection that goes into its creation.
We’re proud of what we build. And we’d love for you to travel with us and experience it for yourself.
🍋 With love,
The Curata Travel Team
